The Ireland Family

Joseph Ireland arrived in Canada in 1819 from Yorkshire, England. He purchased 100 acres of land in Burlington the same year, and over his lifetime accumulated just over 1,065 acres of land. He built Ireland House on Guelph Line between 1835 – 1837, and four generations of his family lived in the home for 150 years. Today, Ireland House stands as a reminder of Burlington’s agricultural history, and life during the Victorian era. Learn about the Ireland family, and take a virtual tour of Ireland House during this presentation.

A Home's Story: The Brant House

Discover the story of the Brant House, the iconic landmark at the head-of-the-lake. Beginning with a brief biography of Joseph Brant, then tracing his arrival in Burlington, and the legacy of his house, from family home to community museum.

Meet Me at the Brant Inn

Step back in time and remember the golden years of the Brant Inn, a popular entertainment and dining venue located on the shores of Lake Ontario, in downtown Burlington. From the 1930s to the 1960s, the biggest names in show business played at the Brant Inn. It is argued that the Brant Inn was the first venue in Canada to bring in international talent of this scale. This lecture will highlight the glory days of this historic landmark, as well as feature video interviews which describe memories from patrons of the Brant Inn.
