Admission Policies
Support persons when assisting a person(s) with a disability are permitted to attend all sites or events at no charge where an admission fee is applicable.
Parking
Joseph Brant Museum
One (1) marked accessible parking spot is located in the North Shore Blvd lot.
Ireland House
One (1) marked accessible parking spot is located in the main lot, at the entrance to the Interpretive Centre.

Entrances
Joseph Brant Museum
The main entrance facing North Shore Blvd features automatic sliding doors and no slope from the sidewalk, and ramp access from the parking lot.
Ireland House
The main entrance to Ireland House features a slight (~2”) step up from the lawn to the edge of the porch. Please note: Due to the historic and protected nature of this property, doorways may also be too narrow for particular mobility devices.
Interpretive Centre at Ireland House
The main entrance facing Guelph Line features a ramp and electronic accessible doors
Accessibility Inside the Museums
Joseph Brant Museum
- Accessible doorways and electronic doors
- Accessible washrooms located on the main and 2nd floor
- The main floor accessible washroom is equipped with an infant changing facility
- An elevator is located behind the reception desk for access to the rooftop terrace
- Walking tour brochures in large print form are available at the reception desk
- Personal, described tours may be scheduled with prior notice
- Sensory friendly accommodations such as early, quiet openings may be made with prior notice
- Accessible height reception desk
- Accessible height gallery displays with high contrast colours/font
- Ramp access in case emergency evacuation of rooftop terrace

Ireland House Museum

- Note; due to the historic nature of the building, there is no elevator or ramp access
- Doorways may be too narrow to accommodate all accessible devices.
- Personal, described tours for visitors that cannot access all floors or have sight impairment may be available when given prior notice of your visit
- Sensory friendly accommodations may be made upon prior request such as early, quiet openings

Interpretive Centre at Ireland House

- Accessible washrooms are located on the main floor (note; no power doors).

Service Disruptions
In the event of planned or unexpected disruption(s) in the facilities or services normally used by persons with disabilities, a public notice will be made available (Via MoB website, social media, notices at entrances or verbally by reception staff). The notice will contain the reason for the disruption, length of disruption and potential alternatives, if available.
Sensory Friendly Guide for Visitors
Arriving at the museums;
- Be prepared for potential crowds or lines when you visit at peak times (typically weekends, holidays or events).
- The museums are typically busier on weekends and during special events such as March Break and the Holidays
- Coat check is available upon registration at reception at Joseph Brant Museum
Sensory Notes;
- Inside Joseph Brant Museum are two echoing voice over features that can be played repeatedly during peak times (Land acknowledgement & Brant Inn video)
- Ireland House Museum is generally quieter with no interactive sounds
- To preserve the artifacts, both locations are dimly lit
- Joseph Brant Museum contains an interactive STEAM activity centre that is optional
Other Guidelines
- Do not touch any object unless they are clearly marked as safe to touch (skin contains oils that can damage the artifacts over time)
- Food and drinks are not allowed in the Joseph Brant museum galleries or Ireland House Museum
