The Lawrie Legacy

Dan Lawrie’s assiduous support of community charities and arts and culture projects has earned him awards and accolades.

In 1982, Dan founded Dan Lawrie Insurance Brokers and shepherded the firm, “from the kitchen table to the board room,” by putting his clients’ needs first. He applies that same people-focused approach to his philanthropic work in Burlington and Hamilton.

In 2014, Dan founded the Dan Lawrie Family Foundation. The foundation’s mission is to provide the residents of Burlington and Hamilton with access to visual art, such as the new sculptures from the Dan Lawrie International Sculpture Collection at the Royal Botanical Gardens’ Hendrie Park and the Spiral Stella outside the Burlington Performing Arts Centre.

In 2015, Dan was honoured with the Burlington Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Entrepreneur Award, as well as nominated for the Business for the Arts – Edward C. Bovey Award. And in 2016, he was named the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year.

Over the years, Dan has made an effort to give back to the community through sponsorship and by serving on the boards of multiple cultural organizations, including the Art Gallery of Burlington. Today, three generations of the Lawrie family are employed at the Lawrie Insurance Group ensuring that the firm, and the Lawrie family, will continue to support the growth of the bay area communities for years to come.
