Youth Volunteers

Are you a high school student looking to earn your 40 community service hours? Join the education team at Museums of Burlington to help deliver our children’s programs for kids aged 5-12.

We have various opportunities available during P.A. Days, Summer Camp, March Break, Christmas Holiday Camp and running children’s activities at Special Events at both Ireland House Museum and Joseph Brant Museum. Training will be provided.

What do you need to do to be considered?

  • Download and complete the Youth Application Form and email it to Robin Hill, Volunteer Program Administrator
  • commit to 40 hours of volunteering
  • attend training sessions (these count towards your 40 hours)

Adult Volunteers

Museums of Burlington have a variety of volunteer opportunities, from assisting with the delivery of unique education experiences, to assisting our curatorial staff, to hands-on craft activities, to assisting at special events. Training will be provided.

We believe that voluntarism is the pathway to a stronger community by preserving and presenting our heritage; that volunteers are a vital and valuable resource to help build a healthier and more connected community; that volunteer positions enhance and support programs and services provided by the Museums of Burlington.

Volunteer Job Descriptions

Education Program Assistant

Volunteering with the interpretive department is great for anyone who loves teaching and working with people. Duties may include assisting with the craft or tour segment or another program component, to helping with program set-up and clean-up. Availability – September to June

Badge Program Assistant

Museum badge programs are designed specifically for Sparks, Brownies, Girl Guides, Cubs and Scouts. Volunteer duties may include assisting with the craft and/or tour segment or another program component, to helping with program set-up and clean-up. Availability – October to May (primarily early evenings, occasional weekend day)

Camp Program Assistant

This position is perfect for the creative-minded who enjoys working with children. Duties may include assisting with the delivery of camp programs, the craft and/or tour segment or another program component, to helping with program set-up and clean-up. Camps are operated during P.A. Days, March Break, Summer and seasonal celebration camps. Availability – year round

Tour Guide / Docent

Guides/Docents provide a welcoming environment and learning experience to museum visitors.  Volunteers must be comfortable speaking to groups of all ages as they conduct gallery and/or historic house tours.  Volunteers are kept informed about changes in museum exhibits to share with visitors. Availability – year round

Special Event Support

For flexible types, special event support offers the opportunity to help out in a variety of ways. Some of the duties may include serving refreshments, conducting gallery and/or historic house tours, reception/admission duties, assisting in the children’s activity area or set-up of equipment for the event (some heavy lifting may be required). Availability – primarily weekends and statutory holidays

Admission/Gift Shop

This front line position welcomes and greets all visitors.  Responsibilities include admission transactions, gift shop sales, telephone duties and clerical support. Availability – Saturday and/or Sunday afternoons year round
