2017 - 2018 Home School Programs

 The Museums of Burlington are excited to offer for the 2017 - 2018 school year a scheduled, registration-based destination outing program for home school children! Programs will follow the new Ontario Social Studies Curriculum.  9 programs will take place at Ireland House Museum over the school year.

A Night at Ireland House

A unique holiday evening where you will enjoy tastings of foods that the Ireland family and their guests would have enjoyed at this special time of year. Sample seasonal foods prepared on the historic hearth and woodstove such as turkey, maple glazed ham, soup and desserts along with tastings of local Niagara wines from Legends Estate Winery, Highlander Brew Co. craft beers and specialty coffees from Tribeca Coffee Co.

Joseph Brant Transformation

A group of First Nations' dancers led a celebration on Oct.13 as three levels of government broke ground for the construction to transform the Joseph Brant Museum. The current Joseph Brant Museum is a 1937 replica of the house Mohawk native Joseph Brant, Thayendanegea, built on a 1798 Crown land grant.  A modern addition to the museum will be built into the grassy area under the current museum. The expansion by contractor Aquicon Construction, on behalf of the City of Burlington, will add more than 12,000 square feet to its current size.  This will allow the Joseph Brant Museum to become a cultural destination and a place to host national exhibitions and the collection of artifacts.
