First Generation - Joseph, Ruth and their eight children

    Joseph Ireland, 1792-1869

     

    Joseph immigrated to Upper Canada from Yorkshire, England, in 1819 when he was 27.

    Ruth Ireland (nee Best), 1802-1867

     

    Ruth made the long, uncomfortable journey to Upper Canada from England with her father, Robert Best, and mother, Mary Best (nee Gaskell).

Second Generation - John, Eliza Ann, and their 12 children

    John Ireland, 1839-1904

     

    In 1886, John was the President of the Township of Nelson Association for the apprehension and conviction of horse thieves.

    Eliza Ann Ireland (nee Naisbitt), 1946-1900

     

    Eliza died on August 12, 1900, from complications of Typhoid Fever.

Third Generation - George, Lucy, and their daughter

    George Naisbitt Ireland, 1885-1972

     

    George was a member of the Holstein Breeder’s Association.

    Lucy Ireland (nee Springer), 1885-1938

     

    Lucy was an accomplished pianist, taught piano, accompanied local vocalists, and played the organ at St. John’s Anglican Church on Dundas Street in Burlington.

Fourth Generation - Lucie Marie Ireland and William Bush

    Lucie Marie Ireland, 1923-1985

     

    Marie attended S.S. #5 Nelson for her primary school education, located on Guelph Line in Burlington, just north of Highway #5.

    William Claire Bush and Marie Bush (nee Ireland), 1914-1986

     

     

    William and Marie got married on September 23, 1963, at St. John’s Anglican Church, and they were divorced a year later.
